Stainless steel usually wins for exterior doors, coastal projects, hotels, hospitals, and other high-use locations where corrosion resistance and long service life matter most. Zinc alloy can be the better choice for decorative residential handles that require complex shapes, detailed patterns, multiple finishes, and controlled purchasing costs.

The correct answer depends on the door location, traffic frequency, handle structure, surface treatment, installation environment, and project budget. Material names alone do not determine the performance of a finished door handle.

When Stainless Steel Is the Better Choice

The main limitation is that much of its appearance and environmental resistance depends on surface treatment. Deep scratches, damaged plating, harsh cleaning chemicals, and prolonged exposure to aggressive moisture may affect the finish.

Compare the Complete Handle, Not Only the Base Metal

A stainless steel handle with weak welding or thin material may perform worse than a properly engineered zinc alloy handle. Buyers should therefore inspect the complete product specification.
