The testing plan should follow the exact hardware type and project requirements rather than applying one generic test to every component.
A door handle, hinge, Mortise Lock, flush bolt, glass clamp, and Handrail fitting perform different jobs. Their acceptance criteria must therefore be defined separately.
Inspection begins with the stainless steel, internal inserts, fasteners, springs, bearings, rubber parts, and other components used in the assembly.
Material grades such as SS304 and SS316 may be required for different environments. When grade verification is part of the contract, the buyer and manufacturer should agree on the documentation or test method before production.
Critical dimensions are measured against approved drawings. Depending on the hardware, these can include:
Fixing-hole centers
Handle length and projection
Spindle size
Hinge leaf dimensions
Lock backset and center distance
Cylinder length
Glass thickness range
Clamp opening
Tube diameter
Fastener dimensions
Small dimensional errors can prevent installation even when the hardware looks normal.
Handles are checked for movement, return, spindle engagement, and fixing stability. Locks and latches are operated to confirm bolt movement and alignment. Hinges are opened and closed to inspect movement, adjustment, bearing action, and unusual friction.
Glass hinges require additional attention because gasket placement, clamping surfaces, and screw engagement affect the tempered glass assembly. Testing should use a representative setup rather than tightening hardware without the intended glass thickness.
Visual inspection examines scratches, dents, polishing marks, coating defects, color variation, contamination, and inconsistent brushing.
Where corrosion testing is specified, the method, exposure duration, and acceptance criteria should be written into the order. One stainless steel flush bolt in our range has a stated salt spray result showing no significant corrosion after more than 72 hours. That result applies to the specific item and should not be generalized to every door hardware model.
Some projects require cycle tests, load tests, fire-door evidence, accessibility compliance, or other third-party documentation. These requirements must be identified during specification, not after production.
The complete door assembly matters. A tested lock or hinge does not automatically certify a door when components, installation, or preparation differ from the tested configuration.
