What Are The Different Types Of Door Lock Systems?

2026-08-13

The main types of Door Lock Systems include latch locks, deadbolts, Mortise Locks, cylinder locks, multipoint systems and smart electronic locks. These names describe different parts or operating methods, so they are not always mutually exclusive. An OEM/ODM manufacturer of door lock systems must first identify the door structure, security level and access method before developing or supplying a lock.

Latch Lock Systems

A latch uses a spring-loaded bolt to keep the door closed. Pressing a lever or turning a knob retracts the latch.

Passage latches are used where locking is unnecessary. Privacy latches add simple inside locking for bedrooms or bathrooms. A latch provides convenient daily closing, but a basic latch alone is generally not intended to provide the same forced-entry resistance as a deadbolt.

Deadbolt Systems

A deadbolt moves into the frame without relying on a spring-loaded beveled latch. The extended bolt provides a more positive locking position for entrance doors.

Common arrangements include:

  • single-cylinder deadbolt with an exterior key and interior thumbturn;

  • double-cylinder deadbolt requiring a key on both sides;

  • keyless or electronic deadbolt controlled by a code or smart credential.

Double-cylinder arrangements can create emergency-exit concerns. Local building, fire and egress rules must take priority when deciding which type can be used.

Mortise Lock Systems

A mortise lock is fitted into a pocket cut into the door edge. The case may contain a latch, deadbolt or both, with a separate spindle, handle and cylinder.

Mortise locks offer considerable flexibility because lock bodies can be configured for different door functions and dimensions. They are widely used in hotels, apartments, offices and commercial buildings.

Our security European mortise lock body represents this embedded lock-body format. Door preparation and compatible handles, cylinders and strike plates must be confirmed before ordering.

Cylinder Lock Systems

The cylinder is the key-reading part of many locking systems. It can often be replaced without changing the complete mortise lock and handle set.

euro cylinders may be supplied as:

  • key-to-key double cylinders;

  • key-and-thumbturn cylinders;

  • half cylinders;

  • customized-length cylinders.

Our brass double cylinder lock is available in several lengths from 60 to 120 mm, with customized sizing also listed. Correct length prevents the cylinder from sitting too far inside or protruding excessively beyond the protective hardware.

Multipoint Lock Systems

A multipoint system secures the door at more than one location, often along the vertical edge. Operating the handle or key can engage several bolts, hooks or rollers.

This configuration is common on selected entrance, patio and profile doors. Door warping, frame accuracy and installation alignment are especially important because every locking point must engage correctly.

Smart Electronic Lock Systems

smart locks use electronic credentials instead of—or in addition to—a mechanical key. The chosen model may recognize fingerprints, passwords, cards, mobile commands or facial data.

Their main operational benefit is flexible access management. A temporary password can be more practical than issuing and recovering a physical key. However, the system introduces batteries, electronics, software settings and user-administration responsibilities.

Our fingerprint keypad door lock supports fingerprint, password, ID-card and mechanical-key access. Exact electronic functions and compatible door preparation should be verified through the approved specification.

Bolts for Double and Inactive Door Leaves

Paired doors often require a different locking arrangement. A flush bolt secures the inactive leaf to the head or floor so that the active leaf can latch against it.

Our concealed stainless steel flush bolt sits within the door edge to preserve a cleaner appearance.

This component does not replace the active-leaf lock. It supports the complete paired-door system.

Select by Function, Not by Product Name

An OEM/ODM manufacturer of door lock systems needs answers to four basic questions:

  • Who should be allowed to enter?

  • How should the door be opened from each side?

  • What should happen during an emergency?

  • Which components fit the door construction?

A hotel room may need managed credentials and an audit function. A bathroom only needs privacy and emergency release. A storeroom may require controlled key access, while a public exit must prioritize safe egress.

How We Support Customized Lock Supply

Our factory has more than 30 years of door-hardware manufacturing experience. We provide product development and production for door factories, supermarkets, property developers, hotels and other project buyers.

OEM/ODM services can cover lock dimensions, material, finish, access methods, matching handles, packaging and shipping. Physical samples and door drawings should be approved before volume production.
